The most powerful proof of Christianity is the resurrection of Christ. The Devil thought he had killed the Son of God, but the resurrection proved God’s complete power.
Just as God brought Jesus Christ back to life, God is always giving us reminders that we can experience new life and new beginnings.
Every day, there is new sunshine and new opportunity. Each day brings new life. Every Sunday, we inaugurate the beginning of a new week. If, by chance, we flubbed or failed, we have another chance to start over. Twelve times a year, we experience a new month. And each month, we have the opportunity of doing something new, or something in a different way.
And now, we face a new year. 2015 is swiftly coming to its end, and 2016 is upon us. With the advent of 2016, God has graciously granted us a brand new year. It’s a new year for growth, a new year for grace, a new year to experience our great God.
It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
The longer I live, the more I realize that we give up on ourselves much more quickly than God gives up on us. When we try more than once to succeed, but we still fail, we sometimes think, “I’ll never get this,” but God thinks, “There’s always another opportunity.”
When we experience strained relationships, we sometimes think, “This is completely hopeless,” but God thinks, “If it’s broken today, it can be fixed tomorrow. And if it’s not fixed tomorrow, it can still be fixed forever in eternity.”
My friend, God has given you a life of hope. Don’t look at the beginning of 2016 without realizing that new days, new weeks, new months, and new years are all reminders of new beginnings. And new beginnings are reminders of God’s great resurrection power.
If you are afraid that something has died and will never come back to life, don’t lose hope. God has many more opportunities tomorrow!
Pray for wisdom, grace, and growth in 2016!
